Elite XC Folds: Is Kimbo Now in Limbo?
October 22, 2008
Looks like Kimbo Slice might have to go back to fighting the locals on YouTube in the near future. Elite XC, despite the fact that they have produced seven of the ten most-watched MMA matches in U.S. history, will be shutting down at the end of the week, leaving an entire roster of fighters, including the recently defeated Slice, looking for work in a constricted sport. The International Fight League and Bodog Fight, both high-profile competitors to industry leader, the Ultimate Fighting Championship, have also folded this year. Despite Elite XC’s deals with CBS and Showtime, giving them the major exposure the other folded bodies lacked, they reportedly lost over $55 million in it’s two years of operation. UFC president Dana White has repeatedly said that he would not use Slice, saying that he is not the caliber of even a mid-level MMA pro.
