NYC Department of Health plans move to Queens
NEW YORK - New York City's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is planning to move 2,700 of its employees to a $316 million office tower being built in Queens.
City officials say the agency will move to the Gotham Center in Long Island City neighborhood when the 21-story building at 28th Street and Thomson Avenue is complete.
The move is the first phase of a massive project aimed at bringing more people to the neighborhood and catalyzing development of retail and service businesses.
Leading real estate developer Tishman Speyer obtained financing from Wells Fargo for the construction of the building. the health department will be the sole tenant under a 20-year lease.
