Relatives of Sean Bell met with federal prosecutors for the first time since the fatal 2006 cop shooting and left buoyed by news that a "serious" civil-rights investigation is under way - a probe that could prove damning for three NYPD detectives who fired at Bell.

"Everything we heard today was encouraging . . . just knowing there is a serious investigation going on," Nicole Paultre Bell, the slain Queens man's widow, told reporters yesterday. "We have a long road ahead of us."

Bell's parents, William and Valerie Bell, also attended the hourlong briefing by Brooklyn US Attorney Benjamin Campbell, and vowed to cooperate.

"They've been following the case from the moment it happened," William Bell said of the prosecutors.

The development came one week before the second anniversary of Sean Bell's Nov. 25, 2006 slaying outside the Kalua Cabaret strip club, where he'd been celebrating his bachelor party. He was set to walk down the aisle only hours later.
