Bloomberg Seeks to Revive Randalls Island Plan (Daily Politics, 03/11/09)
Mayor Michael Bloomberg is trying to revive his failed plan to let 20 of Manhattan's richest private schools pay for exclusive after-school use of scores of public ballfields on Randalls Island. A year ago, a state Supreme Court justice rejected the original contract, ruling that the Parks Department had failed to follow the city's land-use law, which would have required the local community board and City Council to vote on the deal. The city wants to eliminate funding for an organization it helped create to deal with the foreclosure crisis.

Assemblyman Ruben Diaz Jr.'s Bronx Borough President campaign filed petitions with some 16,500 signatures - about 11,500 more than required - at the Board of Elections this morning, saying the names had been gathered in just three (cold and snowy) days.
