MGI's President, Shaka Barak taught, that when the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League (UNIA & ACL) was founded by the Jamaican, Caribbean born, Honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey, (born August 17, 1887-died June 10, 1940) 100 years ago in the year 1914, the major systems of white supremacy called Jim Crow was firmly in place. Shaka revisited Jim Crow in America, after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation, and the 13th Amendment, 1863 and 1865 respectively, to show for the next 90 years, until the 1950's, Jim Crow, kept African people living as one and in fear. He looked at anti-Africanism and terrorism such lynching, floggings, murder, and how these barbaric act's by whites, were coupled with laws enforcing "separate but not equal," created conditions of semi or modified slavery. To establish unity, pride, love, charity, economics, self-reliance and political independence, in Africa, Europe, the Caribbean, etc.. Marcus Garvey and the UNIA & ACL built Universal African Nationalism, the first mass movement in America, and racial consciousness worldwide. The Mistress of Ceremonies for the conference was Garnet Hall, who is also the MC for the National Business Alliance Network's weekly conferences, and a member of the MGI. Prayer was by Dr. Gale Frazier, Director of the Evangelical Christian School, that has been the first elementary school to show the MGI's "Marcus Garvey Exhibit," the Black communities, largest collection of enlarged photo's, and documents on the UNIA & ACL. The overview of the 21 years of history, and mission of the MGI, was given by its secretary, and co-founder Qamar M. Mateen-Barak, wife of the President. The introduction of Shaka Barak was by, Washington, DC. based, Mwariama Kamau, International Organizer and historian of the UNIA & ACL, under the Hon. Cleo Miller, and a member of the MGI. In the one-hour conference, the listeners learned a lot, and shared a lot. The UNIA & ACL, # 429 President Clyde Banks, Maceo Thomas, and others, learned about Jim Crow, and Marcus Garvey's response to it. The listeners also net worked with each other, and exchanged contact information. The MGI, being a research organization means that the next conference promises to be just as informative, as the MGI president Shaka Barak will discuss " Slavery, a System of White Supremacy." The call in number is 605-562-3000, Pin 1052837 #. We will begin Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at 8:00pm Central Standard Time. __._,_.___
