October 23, 2008 --

You can see through Scotch Tape - and it can see through you.

Scientists made the bizarre discovery that when they peeled the tape off its roll in a vacuum chamber, it emitted X-rays powerful enough to photograph the bones in their fingers.

UCLA grad student Juan Escobar, who reported the find in the journal Nature, said, "the power you could get from just peeling tape was enormous."

He suggested that some day the process could be used for making inexpensive X-ray machines.
