According to Huffington Post:
Televangelist Pat Robertson slammed Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger on Wednesday, saying her writings advocated a plan to drive minorities “toward euthanasia.”
“Go back and read her writings,” Robertson said on “The 700 Club.” “What Margaret Sanger believed was there were defective, genetically defective people. They were Roman Catholics, they were evangelical protestants, they were Southern Europeans, they were Latinos and especially, they were African Americans.” Robertson went on to say Sanger wanted to find a “highly respected” leader in those communities to be the spokesman for Planned Parenthood in order to “lead the black people toward euthanasia.”
Robertson also compared Sanger to “the Nazis,” who he said “found people that they thought were defective and they wanted to sterilize them and of course, ultimately murder them.” It’s not the first time Robertson has compared Sanger to Nazis. In April, he said Sanger “set the stage for Adolf Hitler.”
Hmmmm and here’s what Sanger had to say in response to Robertson’s allegations:
The infamous out of context quote that she wanted to find prominent Negro physicians to help with birth control in the South was to counteract Black fears of birth control so that Black women could control their family size just as whites were doing.
These statements by Robertson are part of a long pattern of falsehoods and distortions by the anti-birth control crowd who have no valid arguments against birth control, so they resort to smearing a women who has been dead for a half century.She did endorse compulsory sterilization in limited circumstances but in general opposed it as much as she opposed compulsory motherhood.
She said: “Compulsory motherhood is the cornerstone of the subjection of women and the subjection of women is the basis of all the evils of over-population. Birth is the woman’s problem, and she must be put in a position to solve it for herself. She must have the right to her own body, and the right to choose when she will bear a child. If this right be made absolutely hers, there will be an end to the bearing of children for whom the world has no room and no opportunities; there will be an end to the bearing of diseased and defective children…”

Jamaica’s Usain Bolt Faces Harsh Criticism For White Girlfriend
Usain Bolt (pictured) is known as Jamaica’s premier World- and- Olympic-winning sprinter. A national hero, Bolt has recently gained a boatload of criticism, though, due to his recent relationship to White, Slovakian-born girlfriend Lubica Slovak.

While Bolt has already been dating Slovak for a year, the ish literally hit the fan when the two were photographed kissing each other (pictured below right) in local newspaper the Jamaican Observer (pictured right). The photo ignited a firestorm of disapproval from Black Jamaicans, bemoaning Black men’s “White woman complex.”

A Winston Frazier wrote the following on March 16:
Dear Editor,
I note with interest Usain Bolt’s recent love interest. The Observer’s March 14 Page 2 picture of them kissing and the March 15 cartoon highlight it. Why is it that when most of these black men become famously rich they all gravitate to these Caucasian women?
Don’t get me wrong. I have nothing against any race (although some may take issue with me). I just find it strange because these same women would not look their way under normal circumstances. Two words of advice to Mr Bolt – Tiger Woods.
And Winston isn’t alone. Others chimed in:
‘Another one of our men snatched.’
‘Out of all the girls on this island you pick a snowbunny.’
‘These superstars will always disappoint if we depend on them to raise our racial identity.’
For many, Bolt’s embracing of “the White girl” was an immediate rejection of the local Black Jamaican girls Bolt grew up with. This concept was illustrated in a cartoon that ran with the original published photo (pictured below left).
Bolt’s girlfriend grew up in Canada, but then relocated to Jamaica after reportedly falling in love with the island. Slovak has enjoyed a successful career as a fashion designer on the island, co-owning clothing line Anuna and a Kingston, Jamaica, boutique.
Slovak’s business partner, Tami Chynn, was reportedly the one to introduce her to Bolt, and soon after Slovak interviewed him for a Slovakian newspaper, the two reportedly began dating.
While one could possibly look at the negative criticism of Bolt’s interracial relationship as an isolated incident, there is a long, drawn-out history of Black males dating and marrying White women due to slavery and racism.
Award-winning songstress Jill Scott eloquently described the history of Black men, Black women, and White Woman back in 2010:
When our people were enslaved, “Massa” placed his Caucasian woman on a pedestal. She was spoiled, revered and angelic, while the Black slave woman was overworked, beaten, raped and farmed out like cattle to be mated. She was nothing and neither was our Black man. As slavery died for the greater good of America, and the movement for equality sputtered to life, the White woman was on the cover of every American magazine.
She was the dazzling jewel on every movie screen, the glory of every commercial and television show. She was unequivocally the standard of beauty for this country, firmly unattainable to anyone not of her race. We daughters of the dust were seen as ugly, nappy mammies, good for day work and unwanted children, while our men were thought to be thieving, sex-hungry animals with limited brain capacity.
We reflect on this awful past and recall that if a Black man even looked at a White woman, he would have been lynched, beaten, jailed or shot to death
Scott went on to describe the flinch many Black women experience when they see Black men with White woman as “the wince.” While there is clearly an exception to every rule, to observe Bolt with his White partner without giving into account the historical backdrop of what happens when a particular race of women are placed on a pedestal is small-minded. On the other hand, do we ever want to get to the point where interracial unions can exist unquestioned?

The playwright Kirsten Greenidge, making her New York debut with an Off Broadway production of her play“MILK LIKE SUGAR,” has arrived in the city carrying a stack of good reviews from the premiere production at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego. “As dramatically rich as it is sociologically pointed, ‘Milk Like Sugar’ is one of the works of art for which 2011 will be remembered,” Bob Verini wrote in Variety, and David C. Nichols was similarly complimentary in his Los Angeles Times review.
Well, East Coast theatergoers can now have a look too. Ms. Greenidge’s play is about a 16-year-old high school student who enters into a pregnancy pact with two of her friends but finds the desire for a better life at war with her sense of loyalty. The entire cast from La Jolla, which includes Tonya Pinkins (“Caroline, or Change”) and Angela Lewis as Annie, the torn central character, appears here as well in this co-production by Playwrights Horizons, the Women’s Project and La Jolla Playhouse. The director is Rebecca Taichman, who did “Orlando” at Classic Stage Company a year ago (and “Sleeping Beauty Wakes” at the McCarter Theater in Princeton, N.J., last spring). A straphanger was bitten by a rat on a subway platform earlier this month, and transit workers say that unless the Metropolitan Transportation Authority takes action, it won’t be the last time.
The young woman said she was waiting for the J train at the Chambers Street station during morning rush hour when the rat scurried out from under a bench and bit her foot. But the problem, according to Transport Workers Union Local 100 officials, isn’t a rogue rodent—it’s the increasing aggression of a growing rat population in the city’s subway stations, exacerbated by conditions that the union has repeatedly asked the MTA to fix.
When Governor Cuomo passed his belt-strangling budget back in April, one of the things that ended up on the cutting room floor was funding for the city's Advantage program, which helped 15,000 households with working family members by subsidizing up to $1,100 a month toward rent for up to two years. The state formerly paid $65 million toward the program, which has a budget of $140 million (out of which the feds pay $27 million and the city pays $48 million). With that money cut off, the city decided to scrap the whole thing, and now, after a court battle, a judge has give the Bloomberg administration the green light to do so. [ more › ]

MIDTOWN — A graphic designer plans to spend a week living and sleeping in and around Grand Central Terminal in a bid to raise money and awareness about homelessness in the city.
Queens resident Yusef Ramelize, 34, plans to move into the landmark building around the corner from his office on Aug 21. for a seven-day stay in what he has dubbed his annual "Homeless for One Week” campaign.
The idea began to be formed three years ago when Ramelize spent a week living in the subway system and sleeping on trains during a winter freeze.
“With the recession, I just felt like homelessness in New York City was growing and there were so many misconceptions about them,” said Ramelize this week, sitting in the building that he’ll soon be calling home.
With so many big corporations cutting back on their non-profit giving, he said the role for private citizens had also grown.
“It’s kind of our turn to step up," he said.
