NEW YORK (WABC) -- Retired NYPD detective and television reporter Mike Sheehan was arrested for drunk driving after hitting a police horse with his car in TriBeCa Monday night, according to police.
The 60-year-old Sheehan reportedly struck the horse at the intersection of North Moore Street and Varick Street at around 10:30 p.m.
Sheehan, who was blocks from his house, refused to take a breathalyzer test and was taken into custody.
He was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, causing an injury to a police animal and failure to take a breathalyzer test.
The officer assigned to the horse sustained a minor injury. The horse ran from the scene, but was corralled about a block away.
The crash occurred a block from the First Precinct, which houses a stable.
Sheehan was a decorated NYPD detective who retired to become a television reporter in 1993.
